viagrabook1The Rise of Viagra

How The Little Blue Pill Changed Sex In America (Sociology) by Meika Loe

Review From the New England Journal of Medicine:

Sex is by definition a social business — the basic design presumes two. But the marketers of Viagra (sildenafil) would have us believe that sex is an individualist, male pursuit. Meika Loe’s core argument is that the unprecedented success of Viagra in America is not the result of an exciting scientific breakthrough bringing relief to the desperate or dying. Rather, commercial interests have created a socially desirable but medically limited product — ironically, by denying the fundamentally social nature of sex.

The Viagra Mythviagrabook2

The Surprising Impact On Love And Relationships by Abraham Morgentaler

Review:

He is effective at presenting facts that are not so well known, such as that the drug works in men with performance anxiety but only two-thirds of men with other types of erectile dysfunction. What he does best, however, is to demonstrate how “a firm erection cannot solve deeper problems.” Each chapter describes a situation in which a patient who thought that Viagra was the answer to his problems finds that there are other explanations.

In one, a man learns that his performance problems have to do with the lack of trust he and his partner share; in another, a man who thinks that Viagra will make his sexual performance last the right time learns that “studies have shown that humans average only a minute and a half for the sexual encounters.”

by Jayson Gallaway

whose experimentation with the drug Viagra is at the ever-pounding heart (on) of this book — presents an unflinching, uproarious collection of beneficial stories from the edge of sex. From dancing in S+M clubs to dough-nating sperm, naked soul-searching at the Burning Man festival to asking himself WWARD (“What Would Axl Rose Do?”), Gallaway’s extraordinary tales of erotic adventure are sure to, in his own words, “blow some fire up the clammy and stagnant rectum of American literature.”
