Like a miniature penis, the clitoris consists of a rounded tip (the glans), attached to a longer part (the shaft), about the size of a womens' little toe. The shaft is under the skin at the top (when a women is lying on her back) of the vaginal opening (the opening were the penis is inserted during sexual intercourse). Usually only the glans of the clitoris is visible since the the labia minora, the protective lips covering the vaginal opening, meet over the shaft of the clitoris to form a hood.
