  I am presuming that your doctor is talking about a male prostate gland exam. Why I don't know because prostate screening is usually recommended for men over the age of 50 years. The test is usually a digital rectal examination.

  Here's how the test goes: The doctor will probably ask you to lay on your side with one knee bent op towards your chest. He will put on gloves and apply lubricant to your rectum and the glove. Then he will insert his finger (digit) into your rectum and feel for any lumps in your prostate. The rectum lies just behind the prostate gland, and a majority of prostate tumors begin in the posterior region of the prostate.

  If the doctor does detect an abnormality, he or she may order more tests in order to confirm these findings.

  While the test is not painful it can be slightly uncomfortable and embarrasing.

  If this is the test that your doctor is talking about I would question whether or not it is appropiate seeing as prostate PSA lab testing sceening is not recommended before 40 years old. (50 years without symptoms)
